Frigid Fools Duathlon

Ready to jumpstart your 2012 triathlon season.... the hard way? Sign up today for the 2nd Annual Frigid Fools Duathlon being held on February 18th, 2012. The race is held at Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Newburgh, Indiana - in the Visitor Center Parking Lot. (8215 Pollack Avenue, Evansville, IN 47715) Starting with a 5K run, followed by a 15 mile bike, and ending with another 5K run. Sounds easy right? Well think again..... this is a tough race. And the weather makes it all the more challenging. Kinda like a "box of chocolates" - "You never know what your gonna get". Rain, sleet, snow or hail will not stop the truly dedicated. (we gotta draw the line with icy streets however). Did I say tornadoes, volcanic activity or earthquake? They won't stop us either. Visitor center gates and transition area open at 9AM. Race starts promptly at 10am. Please allow yourself enough time so you are ready to race at 10am.

The race will begin promptly at 10AM with a 5k run, then a 15 mile bike, followed by another 5k run. Both the run and bike courses are "out and backs" and are on paved streets. They are also as flat as a pancake. Note the bike leg will consist of two laps on the out and back course for a total of 15 miles. There will be an un-manned aid station with water (or frozen water) ,bananas, and granola bars at the run turn-around. The table will be set up on a private residence so please use the trash bin-provided. No drop zone for water bottles here. This will not be a closed course. Fortunately, the traffic on these streets is light BUT Please! Use caution and good sense when navigating the course.
Bike Course (2 laps)
Advance registration for the event will be $25. Advance registration must be completed online. Same day registration is also welcome but the fee will go to $30. Proceeds will be used to further promote multi-sport events in our community. Drinks and post-race meal will be provided once you complete your race. There will be a brief awards ceremony at the shelter house as soon as the last participant clears the course. Awards will mostly be bragging rights and front page recognition on our website! And if nobody whines about their fingers or toes being cold, we may just offer up some type of proof you did this thing so you can go back and brag to all your buddies about how you coped with stage 2 frostbite. Now how cool is that!!! If the streets are iced up on the 18th, the event will postpone to the following Saturday (25th) at the same time.
This is just the first of several events that will be hosted by the Southern Indiana Triathlon Team during the 2012 season. We'd love to have you join us! Our annual dues are only $25 and guess what? If you decide to join today we'll knock $5 off your Frigid Fools registration. Any questions? Contact the race director here.
